Shirabad Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Along the village of Shirabad, South-Western Gissar. Yu.N. Andreyev, 1966 (366, p.44, fig.7). Stratotype in the Kelif-Shirabad ridge, 6 km south-west of the village of Shirabad. It is included in the Shirabad mountain (55; 318; 446; 452). Lowermost formation in Tarkapantigay Gr.
Synonym: Shirabad Suite, Ширабадская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestones, grey and greenish-grey sandstones with layers of clays, in the middle part - layers of gypsum and red clays. Thickness 20-60 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It conformably overlies the Akkaptchigay Fm and Jetymtau Fm (Dzhetyimtau Fm)
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the Tyubegatan Fm and Chorrokh Fm.
Regional extent
South-Western, Central, North-Western Gissar, Babatag range, Bukhara-Karshinsky region. The Sh. suite, in the understanding of S.N. Simakov (313), corresponds to the Okuzbulak Fm plus Kaligrek Fm (taken together). In the Strat. Sl. (446) it is not recommended for use in such a span.

Contains ammonites - Karamaiceras kolbajensis Sok., marine bivalves - Rhynchostreon pseudoconicum (Bobk.), Korobkovitrigonia korobkovi Sav., gastropods - Nerineoptyxis amudariensis Pčel., Actaeonella praesupernata Dzhal., foraminifers - Ammobaculoides explanatus Mam., Trochammina kugitangensis N. Byk.; ostracods - Asciocythere dorsoangulata Andrv., Schuleridea jonesiana ventrobullae Mand.
